Connecting AOL Mail (with an app password)

Generate an AOL app password and connect your @aol.com or @verizon.net inbox.

AOL Mail connects to PitchBrand over IMAP using an AOL app password — a 16-character code you generate from AOL's account security page. AOL no longer allows third-party apps to sign in with your regular password. Setup takes about three minutes.

Step 1: Generate your AOL app password

  1. Open login.aol.com/myaccount/security and sign in.
  2. Scroll to Other ways to sign in and click Generate app password (or Generate and manage app passwords).
  3. Click Get Started.
  4. Enter a label like PitchBrand and click Generate password.
  5. AOL shows a 16-character password. Copy it now — it's only displayed once.
  6. Click Done.

Tip: AOL recommends generating app passwords from a browser you've used to sign into AOL Mail for several days, and not in Incognito mode. If the option doesn't appear, sign in normally first and try again later.

Step 2: Connect in PitchBrand

  1. In PitchBrand, open Settings > Mailbox and choose Other Email (IMAP).
  2. On the secure form, enter:
    • Email address — your full AOL address (e.g. yourname@aol.com)
    • Password — the 16-character app password
    • IMAP serverimap.aol.com
    • IMAP port993
    • IMAP encryptionSSL/TLS
    • SMTP serversmtp.aol.com
    • SMTP port465
    • SMTP encryptionSSL/TLS
  3. Submit. PitchBrand will sync your mailbox and show a green Connected badge.

Verizon.net users: Verizon migrated email accounts to AOL years ago. Your old @verizon.net address uses the same AOL servers and the same app-password flow described above.

Things to know about AOL app passwords

  • App passwords stay active even if you change your main AOL password. To revoke PitchBrand's access, delete the named app password from login.aol.com/myaccount/security.
  • Use a unique app password per app so you can revoke just PitchBrand if needed.

If the connection fails

  • "Invalid credentials" or Connection Error — re-check the app password. Most failures are a typo or a password that's been deleted on the AOL side. Generate a fresh one.
  • "App password" option missing — sign into AOL Mail in your normal browser, wait a few hours, then return to the security page.
  • Mail sends but doesn't sync replies — confirm IMAP encryption is set to SSL/TLS on port 993, not STARTTLS.
